Hello my name is Lesley Chin Im 24 years old. I started my weight lifting journey at the age of 17 back in 2017.
The main reason I got into weight lifting was because I was tired of being skinny and having the lack of self confidence.
I use to play video games for hours everyday and my brother told me one day “ why dont you get up and do something productive with your time and make a change for the better “. So I decided enough is enough and joined the gym as soon as I got a job and started my journey.
After my first month in the gym I fell in love with the process as I noticed small changes that drove me wild.
After my first year in the gym I started to gain full confidence in myself and started to meet new friends.
I started setting little goals for myself and one of the goals I made was to build a solid physique by my two year mark and compete in my first physique show. I accomplished the first goal I set for myself and competed in my first show. It was a magnificent feeling knowing that I accomplished what I set out myself to do.
I’ve competed in 3 mens physique shows since my first show. I also got the opportunity to build my confidence even more by doing a run way modeling show. We did a week camp to go over how to walk the run way and from doing that it helped me to bring out a level of confidence in myself that I didn’t think I would see happening.
After my first physique show I had lost control of myself mentally and went into a mini depression and managed to gain 50lbs in 2 months after the show.
The reason this happened was because of knowing how hard I had work to build my physique and then to see all the hardwork go away in 1 week because of trusting someone with my peak week and my body not responding the way it should have rather than listening to myself and trusting my instincts as I was more than ready the week before the show.
As a result of that I ended up coming second place in the show when I had high expectations of coming first.
It took me 6 months to get my body back to a normal point to be able to start back building on top of my physique after all the damage I had done to my body through bad eating.
It was a tough battle I had with myself but through this experience I was able to push myself mentally in a way I didn’t think was possible due to the covid pandemic happening.
While everyone was gaining weight in the pandemic because of stress eating and drinking I used that time to diet down to lose all the weight I had gain from the blow up after the show.
I managed to help a lot of people make a transformation like I did for myself during the pandemic and that was when I decided to take nutrition and helping people with their training and fitness goals seriously.
I’ve always found joy in helping people since the day I found out fitness was where my heart was. So I decided to really push for the limits and hope that one day I can live the dream of changing lives everyday for a living.
Just recently I spoke to my cousin Kendal in regards to making this vision I had set for myself come through as I felt I was more than ready to live the dream and help change lives after my 6 years of lifting and transformations.
He gave me the opportunity to join The Performance Lab and I couldn’t be more happy to be apart of the lab family living the dream and helping people reach their fitness goals. Its a surreal feeling to finally be able to do what I love every day and live a stress free life.
I’ve also gotten the chance to become a full time certified personal trainer since working at the Lab.
Not a day goes by that I don’t feel excited to wake up and chase my dreams whether it means me waking up at 3am to train a client as it no longer feels like a job anymore as Im doing what I love.
